  1. Michael, what’s up with tbe blog? Show 2 – great reportage by the way with the different people at the camp – but it’s not listed in the blog. Got it by guessing the filename. Anyways, looking over the whole blog only the odd numbers show up in the feed (bloglines) and on the site too.

Anyways, looking forward to the other shows.

Verdejo

Dances are born thanks to the group’s ties: in rituals, the Shaman assumes the role of main actor and through his knowledge and magic, gets to bring together the world they ignore (spiritual world) and the one they know (material world). Getting in a visionary trance, the Shaman tries to take control of nature and covers himself with animal hides to reach the spirit of the unknown. Hunting has to be favourable, so with gestures and rhythmic convulsions, a ritual dance is created, while the rest of the group is watching expectant and follows him with rhythmic moves and pitiful voices which have a kind of spiritual tone. This could perfectly be an image of the ritual dance our ancestors used to practice, whose style, with time, would be polished. Probably, they had different kinds of rites (just like today’s primitive tribes) concerning the introduction to hunting, wishes for good weather or the unknown world; other rites devoted to fertility, puberty, family unit ties or even funeral dances, dances to celebrate a good hunting, etcetera. Together with dancing, musical instruments are born, too. Probably, human voice was the first one; afterwards, men began to use percussion, air, etcetera.

Nowadays, in our modern world, dance and music are the strongest ties among humanity, just like an ancestral spiritual aura, with no distinctions of race or nations. Verdejo
