Anybody heard the new misfits?

I heard it. There are some good melodies\riffs here and there but overall I didn't care for it.... mostly for the singing and production. Singer is too "clean" sounding and has bad reverb on his voice. Some songs just sound like they are trying too hard to copy past successes and are "contrived".

There are a couple of songs maybe worth a spot on your iPod: "Death Ray" (though it's too long), "Sleepwalkin", maybe "Vivid Red" and "Monkey's Paw" is kinda funny.). But most are either very boring or overly shlocky.

Using Mr Butler's rating system, I'd probably give it a 5 out of 16 tracks. That may be generous.

I'm a huge Misfits fan, but I would agree that it's way over produced. And try as he might, Jerry Only is not a lead vocalist. The songs sound much better when they play them live though, so I really think the production makes the vocals sound worse than they really are. Doesn't compare to the Danzig albums, or the Michale Graves albums, but I'd listen to most of it again. Where Do They Go is the only song I would call terrible. Dez Cadena (Black Flag) sings lead vocals on Jack the Ripper and Death Ray, which is cool if you're a Black Flag fan. If you're going to judge it by one song, I'd say give either Sleepwalkin', Unexplained, or Jack the Ripper a try.

I got the album. I don't hate it, but it's definantly not their best. Something about Jerry singing makes it seem much more campy. It's better than no Misfits at all. I don't think there will ever be a Danzig reunion. They should at least get Michale Graves back. Is Jerry hard to get along with?
