With the recent news of the Scorpions calling it a day I start to think, "who else should follow suit ?".....
In no particular order are the bands whom I think should call it quits:

Deep Purple (They might've been cutting edge in '71 but it is 2010 - should've called it quits after Blackmore departed. Enough - retire already.

Aerosmith - I know there are some die-hard fans on this board (especially Butler) but they've done shit since 1990. If Tyler is not on vox, time to call it quits.

INXS - There are two bands who CANNOT replace their lead vocalists - they being INXS and Queen - (and I am not comparing both, cos Queen are on a different level). Enjoy the royalties and depart !

Kiss
- WHEN WILL IT END ? WILL IT EVER END ? I was surprised how good 'Sonic Boom' was, but they are a parody with a capital P. Wigs, new members, face-lifts....the farewell tour of 2001 should’ve been just that. Do us all a favour - enough !

Status Quo - They are an institution in the UK. I don't care what anyone says, when Lancaster left, that was it - wasn't the End of the Road tour in 84 ? That was 26 years back !!

I nearly mentioned The Who and any incarnation of The Sweet (sorry Eddy) but guess someone else might. These are just my ramblings...I welcome yours....

Hate to say it, but UFO.
Stop putting out bad Budwiser commercial-sounding faux-'bluesy' rock with that generic 'shreddy' guitar player Vinnie Moore.
I'm sure hes a great guy, and a hell of alot easier to deal with than Schenker..But the dude cannot write a decent, memorable tune!

At the very least, stop calling the band 'UFO'

I'd prefer to hear Mogg in front of another band entirely at this point.

GnR are a great example Kevtic.....why are they still around ? Axl Rose would be better off launching a solo career than dragging the band name through the mud. Does anyone give a shit about Guns n Roses anymore ? I saw them in 88 and yes, they were great - but it's a long time ago. Actually Rose and Mike Love from the Beach Boys are just doing the same thing....playing the hits for those who were there and for those who missed out first time round (maybe Love is Rose's father ?!). They may release new product but sadly the majority is not listening.

Cheap Trick should continue forever - or at least until Bun E drops off the stool....they continue to produce strong, new material and are not lodged in the past...... :D

How could I forget - MOTLEY CRUE

Fat Vince cannot sing for shit anymore. Lee (who I begrudgingly admit is a great rock drummer) - is usually off doing his rap nonsense. Call a spade a spade - they are a horrible live act. I've only seen them three times - including that jaunt in 2005 - and they were apalling. Did anyone hear 'Saints Of Los Angeles'. What an utter load of crap........

Deep Purple - aren't they already dead? Blackmore's doing some Renaissance fair crap - saw them when they reunited with Gillian - I'm done.

Aerosmith is dead. They died with all the flowery B.S. stuff - to survive they should just do the old school analog thing, but even then it's a stretch. New Joe Perry should have had a good producer - stupid keyboard crap - wrong. Bad mastering.

INXS - seriously? - whatever.

KISS - who gives a shit. When your life is all about a "reality series" you're way done. I've always had the rock and roll respect for Peter Chriss and Frehley - they got kicked out for being rockers not capitalists. KISS sucks.

Status Quo - don't know - not my thing...

Jetboy - greatest podcast ever - getting bagged from a band. All my musician friends were disturbed and loved that episode. Butler rules.

James Taylor - I'm old but still have testosterone running through my body - I'll leave that to my girlfriend.

Skynyrd - easily one of the greatest bands ever - but done. Frankly, I'd like to see Blackfoot back. Train Train baby - that shit kicks ass. Skynyrd's a legend - but let it be for the greatness it was - not all the crap bar bands playing Sweet Home Alabama, Call me the Breeze, or a pathetic attempt at Freebird (which is a total bitch to play correctly on bass, BTW). It's a rare occasion when you feel invigorated because you have musicians that are awesome that can kick the crap out of that tune </end of rant>

Motley Crue - Back in the 80's it was awesome - it's 15-20 years of hard living later - done. Mick Mars - is like the dark Johnny Winter - somebody get a wheelchair for god's sake. Problem children of MTV - says it all.

The Who. Keith Moon is gone, John Entwistle is gone, and if the Superbowl performance is any indication, the passion is gone as well.
The Rolling Stones. Really, does anyone care anymore?
Metallica. Release Robert Trujilo to a good band, and call it a day. Death Magnetic was decent, but egos and wealth have ruined that band. End on a high note.
The Misfits. Pains me to say that because I'm a huge fan and I still like going to the Jerry Only shows and hearing the songs played live, but it's a thin shell of a band now... Even I can admit that.

And really any band or musician that only plays two or three shows in LA a year as their "tour." If you can't be bothered to get on the road and play outside of your comfy mansion, it's time to step aside.
Have good mosh pitting.

I watched Skynyrd on Soundstage (PBS) last night. It's hard for them to fill 50+ minutes when they play 2 unforgettable new songs and all their other songs are so long! The only part that was tolerable, was when they played "That Smell", a song that stirs memories of youthful indescretions. Watching the other classics was painful, mostly since I have heard them so much, I can hum or "Air Mouth Guitar" all the guitar solos. The big classics seem forced, slow and lacking of energy. You throw in a rippin' new flashy guitar player that could do those solos in his sleep, and you lose some of good ole boy flavor that was Skynard...this guy didn't seemed to challenged by the repertoire, and he was doing it on a thin ass sounding Strat of all things! The drummer looked like he should have been playing in Spandau Ballet, not Skynard, and if I had to hear JVZ say "Hello Chicago" one more time I was gonna puke! His job during solos was to raise the flag tied to his mic stand into camera range of the dude doing the solo, he even blocked out the keyboard players big moment with his flag waving. I think wrapping that flag around his mic stand has got to be some sort of desecration!

I will not miss them.

First off... Rolling Stones: yes people care--those who can afford tickets.

My suggestion.. Ozzy.
He's my favorite living rock legend and I'd really like to see him end his career with dignity and not as a parody of himself.
It pisses me off when young people disrespect him because of his speech patterns.
The truth is, he is a fucking musical genius with a clear vision and a very humble person.
I just heard an excellent "Rockline" interview with him, promoting his new book. I recommend everyone here check it out. I think you can stream it on the rockline site.
