After a few years of playing music as members of other bands, brothers
Stephen and John Gomez, along with longtime friend and fellow musician
Jessica Bowen, set out in the spring of 2007 with a new idea in mind,
and, with new found lead singer Brian Dales on board, they formed The
Summer Set. The Summer Set began with a simple goal: to bring its
unique and catchy brand of fun, upbeat pop rock to as many fans as
possible. Soon after the pieces fell into place, The Summer Set began
planning and writing their first EP, “Love the Love You Have,” which
was self-released in November of 2007. The band independently sold
7,000+ copies in just a few short months. With their catchy melodies
and cool, approachable, “friends next door” image, the band quickly
captured the hearts of local fans in their hometown of Phoenix and
assembled a strong and loyal fan base across the west from weekend
tours. They set their sights on doing the same throughout the rest of
the country. After shopping around to find the perfect label for the
band, The Summer Set recently signed a record deal with “The Militia
Group”. They are extremely satisfied with their decision and new
family. Shortly after that decision was made, the band set out to
record their newest EP entitled “In Color”. With the recording done,
the band – lead singer Brian Dales, bassist Stephen Gomez, guitarist
John Gomez and drummer Jess Bowen, are all eager to hit the road, play
shows and build their fan base across the country. “In Color” will be
available on iTunes June 24th and in stores later this summer.

Band Members:

Jesse Bowen – Drums

Stephen Gomez – Bass

John Gomez – Guitar

Brian Dales – Vocals

Josh Montgomery – Guitar

Black Tide Interview at Warped Tour – Emo Girl TV

Martina and Jackie Interview Black Tide at Warped Tour

Jackie and Martina Interview Black Tide at Warped Tour in San Francisco

BLACK TIDE

Light From Above

Gabriel Garcia – lead vocals, guitar

Zakk Sandler – bass

Steven Spence – drums

Austin Diaz – guitar

Black Tide come out of the gate with all guns blazing. Their Interscope Records debut, Light from Above,
is a loaded salvo of fret-burning, hyper-charged riffs. The Florida
quartet churns out fist-pumping, fast-paced metallic anthems with no
remorse. Their sound channels the forefathers of heavy metal, but with
a dose of 21st century attitude.

Cuts like “Shockwave,” “Warriors of Time” and “Show Me The Way” pack enough explosive energy to ignite any crowd.

Vocalist
and guitarist Gabriel started singing and playing guitar at
eight-years-old, and he knew that’s what he was meant to do the second
he donned an axe. “When I started playing, I was like, ‘This is what I
have to do.’ I don’t want to be a fucking lawyer or some shit like
that. I told my family I wanted to play heavy metal. My parents have
supported my decision the whole time. Anyone else would’ve been like,
‘Shut up! Go to school!’”

Gabriel’s intense immersion
into music has paid off. He formed Black Tide along with bassist Zakk
Sandler and original guitarist Alex Nunez in 2003. Drummer Steven
Spence would join their ranks in 2006, and after an incendiary
performance at that year’s Florida Music Festival, Interscope signed
the band. Black Tide recorded their debut, Light from Above, at
Groovemaster Studios, with Johnny K (Disturbed, Machine Head, Soil) in
2007. As soon as it was finished, the four lads hit the road on OZZfest
2007′s main stage alongside Ozzy Osbourne, Lamb of God and Static-X.
Immediately, they began to build a buzz because of their no-holds
barred approach to infectious, arena-ready heavy metal.

Zakk
sums up the band’s sound perfectly. “Black Tide sounds like four pissed
off teenagers who listen to too much good music. When we come together,
we make something special. We love Iron Maiden, Pantera, Metallica and
Guns ‘N’ Roses, but we don’t try to be anything we’re not. We just get
up on stage and do what we love.”

Leading up to Light from Above‘s
March 18, 2008 release, the band toured with the likes of Avenged
Sevenfold, Bullet for My Valentine and All that Remains. Garnering
instant acclaim, Light From Above sent a “shockwave” of its own through the scene. Rolling Stone named Black Tide one of the “Best Rookies of 2008” and “Metal’s New Teen Titans,” Spin tapped them as one of the “Next Big Things,” while Revolver featured them as a “Band To Watch” and included them on the cover of the August 2008 Mayhem issue, and Kerrang! proclaimed them “Best International Newcomer.” The band followed its release with an appearance on the inaugural Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival alongside Slipknot and Disturbed as well as playing the main stage of Download 2008.

After Download,
Alex and the band amicably parted ways. Black Tide added guitarist
Austin Diaz to the fold, and he’s been the perfect fret foil for
Gabriel. “Austin is awesome. He learned all of our songs in two days,
before the first date of Mayhem. We played the show, and he killed it,” Gabriel says.

In
the end, Black Tide are ready for anything. Gabriel’s excited for what
the future holds. “The band is so united now. We’ve never been together
like this before. Black Tide’s stronger than ever.” That strength will
only lead to bigger and better things. Zakk concludes, “The kids want
more, and I want more out of us everyday. We’re like that arena rock
band who just hasn’t made it to the arenas, yet.” It’s only a matter of
time until they do.

Emo Girl Talk Vidcast – Riverboat Gamblers Interview

June 21, 2009

Martina and Jackie interview Mikc Wiebe from the Riverboat Gamblers

BIO:

The Riverboat Gamblers are a punk rock band originally from Denton, Texas, but now residing in Austin, Texas. The band currently consists of Mike Wiebe, Fadi el-Assad, Rob Marchant and Ian MacDougall, and are currently signed to Volcom Entertainment.

In 1997, former Blanks member Pat Lillard (“Spider”) (Bass), formed The Riverboat Gamblers with Fadi el-Assad (“Freddy Castro”) (Lead Guitar), and Mike Wiebe (“Teko Buller” or “Rookie Sensation”) (Vocals). Lillard’s original intention was to emulate Virginia punk-rockers The Candy Snatchers. In direct contrast to the popular emo music at the time, The Riverboat Gamblers’ premiere show featured over-the-top songs relating to drinking and of course, gambling. Tongue planted firmly in cheek, The Riverboat Gamblers continued to play house parties and shows throughout Denton and the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The Gamblers burst out of the Denton college scene in September of 2001 on the back of their self-released 7” single “Jenna Is A No Show.” Both 2001’s self-titled release and 2003’s “Something to Crow About” were produced by Texas punk rocker Tim Kerr (Big Boys, Lord High Fixers).

After the warm reception of “Something to Crow About”, the band soon relocated from Denton, Texas to Austin, Texas. The band first received attention from major record labels after their energetic and rowdy showcase at the 2003 South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas, but the band ultimately signed with indie label Gearhead Records. In 2005 they were signed to Volcom Entertainment and performed a stint on the 2005 Warped Tour, where the band was often noticed for its deranged live shows.
